The new partnership will facilitate McLaren Oakland’s longstanding mission of providing the highest level of emergency surgical care by ensuring patients have 24/7 access to an in-house team of fellowship-trained acute care and trauma surgeons supported by Surgical Affiliates’ depth of expertise in emergency surgical care.

“We are thrilled to have a new partnership with Surgical Affiliates, as their fellowship-trained trauma surgeons will be in-house providing real-time patient assessments instead of a patient waiting for an on-call surgeon to drive in and assess the patient,” stated Margaret Dimond, Ph.D., President and CEO of McLaren Oakland. “The new in-house trauma surgeons  will deliver the most appropriate care for the needs of our complex community.”

Surgical Affiliates will provide an enhanced array of surgical services including an in-house team of board-certified acute care and trauma surgeons highly trained in implementing evidence-based guidelines to provide 24/7 care to patients.  This experienced surgical team will deliver a systematic, personalized approach to care that is a core benefit of the Surgical Affiliates acute care surgical model.  Also, a dedicated medical director will provide support and leadership to the surgical team while ensuring high-quality standards and efficient clinic operations, and a fully-staffed follow-up clinic will be provided to offer post-discharge care to patients.

“Dr. Dimond is an incredibly decisive CEO – she immediately recognized how a partnership with SAMGI could raise the bar of trauma care for the region.  Working with her leadership team, we have enjoyed outstanding local surgeon and APP recruitment to the trauma and acute care surgery service,” said Surgical Affiliates President and CEO Lynette Scherer, MD, FACS.
